Josep Maria Ventura y Casas, popularly known by the name of Pep Ventura, besides working as a musician and composer he was also aconductor. He came to compose more than 400 pieces in total. As aperformer, he played various instruments including the tenor, which he studied and transformed in the standard it is today, and to this must be her nickname Pep of the Tenor. Thanks to its versatility and predisposition, Ventura made great innovations in the composition of sardanas and reformed the structure of the stanza and that’s why it is considered the father of modern sardana. One of his most famous compositions is the sardana “Per tu ploro”, which he wrote shortly before his death in 1875.
