An ancient name
Hebron is the city of the West Bank where, according to the Old Testament, David was proclaimed King of Judah. The city’s relationship with this area of Barcelona comes from the history Monastery of Sant Jeroni de la Vall d’Hebron. It was founded in 1393 thanks to Queen Violante de Bar, wife of John the First of Aragon, who had made some monks come from Valencia. The Queen lodged both noblemen and powerful people of Barcelona in the monastery to promote its use, and was instrumental in elevating the monastery’s standing in the centuries that followed.
