Clotum Mellis (Honey’s Concavity)

In the medieval period, the area which is now known as the Clot was called Clotum Melis, as it was a deep-cultivation area where a very high quality honey was elaborated and sold in Barcelona. Back then, the Clot was predominately rural area, with farms and country estates.

This building turned into cultural center is the only historical record of the city’s industrial period. Nowadays, social and cultural activities take place there which are open to all visitors. In its interior one can still find some of the factory’s period machines on display.

Situated in the land where the old Clot station and Renfe workshop stood, it is now has two differentiated sections, a green and very peaceful one, in-between the triangle that runs from the Meridiana and the Gran Via, and another one which is a recreational area with playgrounds for children, a municipal sports center and a recycling area for scrap metal, oil and cardboard.

This thirteen century building, which belonged to Knights of San John of Malta, was used as a hospital and hostel for pilgrims. Nowadays it’s a high school.

Market in Premodernist style designed by the architect Pere Falqués i Urpí. It was inaugurated in 1889 and was subsequently reformed in 1995. You will find all sorts of things!
