A place of nymphs
Llefià is one of the traditional neighburhoods of the city of Badalona and its origins date back before the Roman age when, they say, this area was called Ninphianus, a place of nymphs, the fountains’ deities, probably because of the large number of fountains that were there. It is from the word Ninphianus that the name Ninfià and later Llefià derived. Until the first years of the 20th century, this area was an area of fields (irrigated by the water of the river Besòs) and over time it disappeared to let space to mainly textile factories.
