The coast of rabbits
The name of this station, the same as that of the square where it arrives, derives from the Latin voice Hispania. This was what the Romans called the Iberian Peninsula and Ispania, the Carthaginians. But even longer ago, the Phoenicians called it Isephanim, “coast or island of rabbits”, probably because of the large number of rabbits.
