El Coll – La Teixonera

The reddish fountains

Despite El Coll is a neighbouring area of the Teixonera, it is part of the Gràcia district. The name comes from a church’s name, once again, the church of Nuestra Señora del Coll, which is called in this way because it stands on a hill (coll).
The Teixonera or Taxonera is part of the Horta-Guinardó district and it is on top of the city. The name comes from Joaquim Taxonera and Cassà, a shoes-maker who was born in 1858. He was the owner of the Grau farm which stood in this area in the past.

The artificial lake in the centre of the park is the thing that most stands out in this green area. It is 1.968 feet deep and it turns into a public swimming pool in summertime. It is possible to get it from the Penitents metro station.
