The immortalized of the Cases
The heiress (or pubilla in Catalan) of the Cases family, Josefa Cases i Clavell, commissioned the construction of this stately home in a neoclassical style on these grounds in 1771, never imagining at the time that her name would forever be immortalized when it christened the entire district. Before this, the land had belonged to the Society of Jesus, but when King Charles the Third, who expelled the members of this order in 1667, their lands were also confiscated. This is when Josefa Cases acquired them, razed the old building and had a palace built in its place.
