The neighborhood of Sant Andreu de Palomar derives its name from the old church consecrated to the Apostle. Andrew, Peter’s brother and, like himself, born at Bethsaida, was the first apostle to recognize Jesus and to quit being a fisherman to follow him and to preach His doctrine, as mentioned in the Bible. This saint preached in Asia Minor and in Greece until, in the year 63, under the reign of Nero, he was taken prisoner and condemned to die on a cross in the shape of a blade. The toponym of Palomar, on the other hand, could indicate that this was an area abundant in turtledoves or wild pigeons. However, it seems that this land was also very favorable for farming and agriculture, activities which lasted till the industrial era, when the countryside gave way to factories. Sant Andreu de Palomar was an independent town until April 20, 1897 when it signed the Aggregation Decree to Barcelona, subsequently being annexed to the metropolis.
