The courts of the rural areas
Corts of Sarrià is the original name of this area, which was called in this way since it included rural lands under the aegis of Sarrià where corts (courts) like farms, corrals or other kind of space for livestock stood. In 1822 this area became independent— although it only became effective in 1836—and it had its own town hall until 1897, when it became annexed to the city of Barcelona.

This property was the house the Deu’s, a family of liquor manufacturers, until the 70s. It was the first home in the area to be converted into a civic centre in 1986. PAU FARINETES SCULPTURE

This famous bronze sculpture was realized by Nicolau Ortiz. It represents a farmer with Catalan hat, that lead you back to the rural past of this district. The name “farinetes” (flours) comes from the old farm that stood in these fields.

 THE OLD MUNICIPALITY OF LES CORTS

This building is the present seat of the district. It was designed by Antoni Rovira i Rabassa and it was inaugurated in 1884. In the façade it is still possible to see the original shield of Les corts, when it was a municipality. The area around Les Corts street is well-known as Corts Velles.
