El origen del nombre Cornellà se remonta a la época romana, con Cornelianus, un derivado del nombre propio Cornelius. Así que muy probablemente existiera algún Cornelius que fuera propietario de estas tierras, que acabarían adoptando su nombre.
El castillo que aún hoy día existe en la zona data del siglo XIV. Mucho antes, pero, había también una iglesia y una torre de defensa que se construyó como defensa a los ataques de los sarracenos. Esta zona estaba dedicada básicamente a la agricultura, y tenía algunos cortijos.

Cornellà tiene una interesante y atractiva estación de trenes, construida en 1955 en estilo neoclasicista. Otro detalle interesante son las columnas prerrománicas del ayuntamiento, en la plaça de l’Església, 1, que eran los pilares del arco principal de una antigua iglesia visigótica que hubo en esta zona alrededor del 977.
La església de Santa Maria, que está en la misma calle, se construyó para sustituir a una anterior, que fue derruida durante la Guerra Civil, y data del año 1940. Al lado está la rectoría de Santa Maria, del s. xvi. Por último, en el carrer de Mossèn Jacint Verdaguer, 16-18, encontraréis el Arxiu Històric de la ciudad.

The origin of Cornellà’s name goes all the way back to the Roman period, and comes from the name Cornelius. This is why it is assumed that there must have been a Cornelius at some point in time who owned these lands, which eventually adopted his name.
From its most ancient history, a fourteen-century castle has survived, although it is known that a church as well as a defence tower had been erected much earlier to repel Saracen incursions. In this area which was predominantly agricultural, there were some farmhouses.

Cornellà has a very interesting and attractive train station built in neoclassical style in 1955. Another interesting particularity are the pre-Romanic columns of the town hall in the plaça de l’Església, which once held the main arch of a Visigoth church that stood at this place in 977.
The Church of Santa María, which is on the same street, was built in 1940 as a substitute of another older one that was on the same spot, destroyed during the Civil War. Next to it is the rectory of Santa María, of the sixteenth century. And finally, on the Mossèn Jacint Verdaguer St. 16-18 you will come upon the City’s Historical Arxiu (Archive).

This is the new football field of the RCD Espanyol, inaugurated in 2009, with seating capacity for more than 40.000 spectators.
Among the buildings of the rambla d’Anselm Clavé, at number 18 stands out a modernist bare brick wall in arabic style. To admire more modernist houses, it is worth one’s while to go to Amatler St., where one can see a few which were built in 1900 and have been preserved. And finally, you can walk up to the Castell de Cornellà, also known as Nou or del Boni, which sits atop a hill. There are known references to this castle since the year 1204, and it has been reformed on several occasions. Built in Gothic style it has been in public use since 1992. It presently hosts the Historical Archive of the Utopia Foundation.
The gardens of les Aigües de Cornellà, on the Llobregat Route next to the rotunda of Sant Boi Road, are located where once we had the most important source of drinking water installations for the entire metropolitan area. A Water Museum has been opened in one off its modernist buildings.

El nom de Cornellà té l’origen romà a Cornelianus, derivat del nom propi llatí Cornelius. La primera referència escrita és de l’any 980, així que podria ben bé ser que algun Cornelius fos el propietari d’aquestes finques que n’acabarien prenent el nom.
El castell que encara avui en dia existeix a la zona data del segle xiv. Molt abans, però, hi havia també una església i una torre de defensa que es va construir com a defensa dels atacs dels sarraïns. Aquesta zona estava dedicada bàsicament a l’agricultura, i tenia alguns masos.

L’origine del nome Cornellà risale all’epoca romana, con Corneliano, un derivato del nome proprio Cornelio. Quindi molto probabilmente c’era qualcuno Cornelio che possedeva queste terre, che avrebbero finito per adottare il loro nome.
Il castello che esiste ancora oggi nella zona risale al 14 ° secolo. Molto tempo prima, però, c’erano anche una chiesa e una torre di difesa che fu costruita come difesa contro gli attacchi dei Saraceni. Quest’area era essenzialmente dedicata all’agricoltura e aveva alcune case coloniche.

Un altro dettaglio interessante sono le colonne pre-romaniche del municipio, in Plaça de l’Església, 1, che erano i pilastri dell’arco principale di una vecchia chiesa visigota che esisteva in questa zona intorno al 977.
La chiesa di Santa Maria , che si trova sulla stessa strada, fu costruita per sostituire una precedente, demolita durante la guerra civile, e risale al 1940. La porta accanto è la canonica de Santa Maria , dalla s. xvi. Infine, nella carrer de Mossèn Jacint Verdaguer, 16-18, troverai la Arxiu Històric della città.

Происхождение названия Корнелья относится к римской эпохе, и кроется в слове Cornelianus, от имени собственного Cornelius. Так что, возможно, существовал какой-нибудь Корнелиус, который владел этими землями и передал им свое имя.
